Juneteenth celebrates the final emancipation of slaves in the United States and the persistent drive and determination to seek freedom, liberty, and equality in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation issued January 1, 1863 and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which abolished slavery, except section 1, ratified by Congress on December 6, 1865.

May is recognized nationally as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
In this resource, we highlight Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American stories. We celebrate and recognize people from the East, Southeast, South, Central and West Asian countries and the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Islands. More specifically, we celebrate and honor Asian, Pacific Islander and Desi American stories of struggle, resistance, intellectual wealth, and cultural wealth (Review the 7 C’s of Ethnic Studies). In light of the Derek Chauvin Trial, San Diego Unified School District has curated resources for confronting racial violence and injustice for educators, counselors, site leaders, and parents. These resources can be used to facilitate discussions with students, families, and staff about racial justice. April is Arab American Heritage month! The month of April is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the achievements of Arab Americans in National Arab American Heritage Month. This holiday consists of a lot of spring cleaning and setting up altars with food for ancestors as well as cooking lots of food to take the temple. We would also play fun games, like Kla Klouk. It was always filled with festivals, music and food! In Thailand, Songkran is celebrated with a huge water fight as it is during summer and incredibly hot. In this conversation with three experts, we will explore the importance of this holiday, how and why it's celebrated across the country, as well as relevant books, teaching strategies, and more.
